I had this pearsei chewy for just over a year. I picked him out of a mix of Africans at the lfs, they gave him to me for 10 bucks. I knew what he was when I first saw him! This is hands down th e fast growing fish i have owned. Going from a couple inches to over a foot and fat in a year. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions. Thanks.

Wow...that is an awesome growth....are they aggressive fishes and is that an Oscar at the back?
Congrats on the lucky pick and how great it turned into
Thanks! Mine is very mild manner for a cichlid his size, and no that is a large golden severum i rescued. Funny think is, my pearsei paired up with the severum. Obviously the eggs weren't fertilzed and they were just eaten. Even though they paired up they didnt cause any damage to the other fish. So year, great large cichlid to have a "semi-community" fish.

Great job! Ive had mine for about three years. She is full grown at 14". They are great big fish with a really mild personality.

Thanks, yes they have a huge personality! mine likes to swim upside down alot. Also, I have always assumed mine was a male since it grew a tiny hump after about 10in. Can you see in the pic?

I have what I thought was a small Bocourti. But it looks just like yours does, same size, same brown spot on the side. I think mine was mis-labelled now.

Awesome great to see another pearsei owner...funny my son named out pearsei hulk and our heterospilus chewy.

Anyway they are great fish arent they. Mine is a bit on the aggressive side sharing a tank with bichirs who he absolutly ignores, harasses the het thought
They really are like little dogs.
Keep udating not too many of us pearsei owners.

Pic of mine 7 months ago and now.

The hump is not that pronounced where I would say 100% male. Mine has a slight hump and its a female. I know mine is female by venting.

Only other way I could think it was a male is because it paired with the severum which laid eggs but then again u never know lol
