2 weeks ago I purchased this 3” pearsei cichlid and I’ve decided that he’ll be a wetpet with a few silver dollars. Right now he’s in a 5 foot 120 gallon tank that is split right now. Could he be able to live in this tank for life? If not, I have the intent to upgrade to a 6x2x2 or even larger.

Everyday I’ve been putting a full leaf a romaine lettuce and by the end of the day it’s down to the stem. I also put pieces of algae wafers. Any other veggies or fruits I should start to get him on?

If I don’t forget, I’ll update this thread with pics/vids monthly.

Congrats on your new Pearsei. A great choice for a peaceful wet pet. My avatar pic is of my old Pearsei that passed away last year. She was at least 10 years old and 16” at death. I had her in a 8 foot 300 gallon tank and it worked well for her size. I would say 180 gallon tank minimum for a full grown one.

Be patient they do grow quickly but there is an awkward stage that they go through where they just are not that attractive and you can tell they are sub-adults. For mine it was the 8" - 12" stage, once past that then it started to fill out and look like a pearsei should. I think most people give up on them before they fully develop, expect about 3 yrs to get a good monster adult pearsei at its full potential.

Officially one year of having pearsei. I named him “Sweet Pea.” He has a lot of personality, always coming up to me when I’m near the tank. Haven’t vented, but I’m leaning more toward a male?
