I have been thinking of changing out my stock to a more peaceful group of fish and high on my list of fish considered peaceful giants is the Pearsei. Over all how peaceful are they?

As an example I have a Midas that I consider "peaceful" for a Midas. Ive owned these fish before and this guy is exceptional when it comes to accepting other tankmates, BUT every now and then his true colors show and he will chase my red hook silver dollars and bite/tear my pleco's fins.

I know that every fish has its own personality but would a Pearsei be quite a bit more peaceful to his tankmates then my "peaceful" Midas? For those Pearsei owners out there how does your big guy fair with others?

Also any other input on large gentle giants would be appreciated. Would also consider Bocourti as an option.

Forgot to mention: current fish are in a 120g (60x18x26), they will soon be moved to a 210g (72x24x29)
Also I apparently cant spell the word "giant" correctly in my posting! :grinno:

Thought I would add the other current occupants of the 120g. Most are keepers if I replace my Midas with a Pearsei.

Red Hook silver dollar x3 (4.5-5")
Regular silver dollar x1 (4")
Pleco L001 x1 smaller sailfin variety (8")
paratherap fenestratus x1 (4")
parachromis loisellei x1 (5")

Though I find it irritating that the fenestratus and loisellei are constantly flaring up and having a territory standoff with each other. Might ease up a bit in the new 210g.

I have heard peaceful but Ive also heard bully if they are the largest fish in the tank. My Midas will at times just snap and start going after the silver dollars which just does not contribute to a nice time watching the fish. The final straw was watching him yesterday biting my pleco who was no where near his "special log", clear on the other side of the tank.

I found plastic plants spread out aggression.

i have had several and all of them had different personalty,i had one that was a stone killer(only tank mate he ever accepted was a large blackbelt)most were peaceful unless another fish bothered them,
i actually have one now with a pair of bocourti(the male bocourti and the pearsi spare all the time, but no damage)both are large, bulky fish and do well together(except when food around they are two of the most aggressive eaters i have ever kept)dont stand near the tank when feeding you will diffenantly get wet when these 2 big guys hit the surface.

Hey Buddha,

Didnt you at one time in your set up have silver dollars with your pearsei? How did they interact with these?

large driftwood to break line of sight works best for larger fish

all of them would chase the dollars from time to time(just something to do i guess)
