i've had thig guy/girl for around 2 months now. when i first got it i thought it was a male because it had blue fins, lateral dots running down the body, below AND above the thick black lateral line and it was also quite coulourful on its cheeks and nose.

after a month or so i accidentally spooked it and it has been shy ever since. it also lost all of its colours. now i'm thinking its a female because of the way it is looking. it also doesn't have speckles through the fins, which i'm noticing in all the males my mates have.

sorry it's a long rant but it's been driving me crazy trying to sex it

MALE OR FEMALE???

here is some pics of when i first got it. i do have a blue globe as 1 of my 4 globes. it's fins were still blue though

these photos are mostly from tonight. it's hard to get a good shot as it's 2.5' deep and the dovii is usually hiding. you get the idea though of how it is looking

That's a hard one to pic from those pics.It has some traits of both male and female. Have you tried venting it. I was almost fooled into buying what I thought was a female not long ago.No facial markings, lack of spoting in the unpaired fins and no spotting above the lateral line made it look like a definate female. Closer inspection (venting) out of the tank revealed it was a male.

Typically 5.5-6" is when they are 100% vent-able.

How big is this one Cuban?

It's really a tough call. It kind of looks like my old low genetic male that I had as for the spots, but he didn't have the blue coloration like yours had so I'm not sure.

Can you take a pic of the vent?

I want to say female, but as someone else has stated...it has features of both male and female. I would try venting it.

i would say female also but still to early. very nice looking. gl with ur dovii.

the dovii is around 5.5". the ones you get over here are low genetic. there's no doubt about that!

i went to a LFS today and they had one that someone had traded in. around the same size as mine but a definite male. i've put it on hold and on the weekend i'm putting them both in my 7x2x2.5' tank. hopefully mine is a female and they pair up.

loooks kinda male, kinda female for some reason lol.
