here
I've noticed lately that a lot of people are using pebbles and or river rocks for their substrate and I like the look.
What are the pros and cons?
I'm setting up a new tank and can't decide what I want. Thanks.

Everythings got problems to some degree, like having to get up and feed the fish or having to turn your head to look at a different fish

First, I use what's good for my fish. You can make anything look good.

Depends on the amount of work you think it is. Some people think vacuuming gravel or pebbles is too much work. I use the time to check out my fish close-up.

I made / modified a gravel cleaner by taking a power head and attaching a lg gravel vacuum head to it and pumping it out to my w/d for filtering (I can adjust the flow of my return pump to compensate for more water).

Some people setup spray heads under the gravel to direct flow of return water to keep circulation up at gravel level. Still have to vacuum gravel

Then there are some who use under gravel filtration or atleast under gravel returns to draw garbage down thru the gravel and to the filter. Not much maitenance just watch for clogs & dead spots.

No matter what, some garbage will collect or get stuck somewhere so moving things around a little, just don't confuse the fish.

Pro's & Con's are kinda hard to say, It's just something you have to clean differently...you even have to clean a bare-bottom tank.

Good Luck and keep us posted ( & pics)

Yup. Got the vaccumming thing down, I got gravel in all my tanks now. I was just wondering if the bigger pebble type of gravel is easier or harder to maintain.
