my midas seems to be stuck on eating ONLY pellets right now. i'm going to attempt to "starve" him when i go on a little thanksgiving vacation for 3 days, then try to feed him krill and or meal worms.

In case this doesn't work, how does a pellet only diet affect cichlids?

just make sure you are feeding a good pellet.
hikari and new life spectrum are good.
there are shrimp/krill based pellets such as HPH that you can try using.
i personally would love it if all my fish ate only pellets... it's a real hassle otherwise.
plus i think there's nothing wrong with a 100% pellet diet. just make sure it's a good bran and it's not gone bad.

I'm feeding him Hikari gold currently.

funny most of us would love our fish to eat pellets and are constantly training our fish to do so?

really, i never knew that. see, i always thought it was healthy for a fish to have variety in their diet. but if there is no problem w/ pellet only diet, its fine w/ me since my midas can't get enough of it.

For the most part you want to keep your fish on a high protein, good quality staple food (pellet). Stick with Hikari, New Life Spectrum, Omega One, etc. . . If you would like to make sure they are getting all they need try soaking their pellets in Boyd's Vitachem, some prefer Kent' Zoe. Every once in a while, treat them to a feeder, krill, worms, etc. But try to keep them on the pellet.

if it only wants hikari pellets dont argue it and feed it straight pellets
