Pellet traing a 5 inch kelberi?

Kels are my favorite cichla but they are the worst when it comes to pellet training.Is he alone in the tank?
 
I have my 3" - 4" kels eating new era pellets. They areca softer pellet that is easy for the bad to except. Im trying to get them on hikari mini cichlid gold now. They take it once in a while. Also freeze dried plankton, they love the stuff.

Yup that is true. They're not like datnoids where they will starve themselves to death. Just starve him. He'll eventually see the others in your tank eating pellets. I would try Hikari massivore sinking pellets. Supposedly they're just like live food. That's what I started my opb on. Once they start eating those you can start them on other pellets. Good luck

Funny that you guys mentioned datnoids starving to death. Trying to pellet feed my dats and kelberis, all under 5". After 5 days of starvation, only 1 3" NTT was willing to take the Hikari sinking pellets. I heard pellets soaked in garlic can help.

Thats kinda small to be starving imo. I had one that didnt eat for 3 weeks and finally gave in. I didnt have a choice though. He was part of a group that started eating pellets so I didnt have another tank for him. I didnt want to compromise the others. Needless to say hes alive and well now but he did go 3 weeks. paper thin.
