Since the stores near us, never stock the food I'm after, am doing an online order for the various fish foods I prefer. Anyways there set postage is expensive, so am trying to bulk the order out a bit more LOL, and was wondering what pellets would be suggested for my oscar? he;s picky as hell, and I figured rather then rotating through tropical fish flakes betta flakes etc that I do now to keep him eating his staple food, I'd just buy a variety of cichlid foods.

So far on the order I've got
Hikari cichlid gold (I already feed this, but need more)
Wardley shrimp pellets
Hikari cichlid staple

Anything else? even the online shops don't have the best selection of food, but they at least have more then the generic no brand tropical flakes my LFS sells.

Try to order Cichlid Bio-Gold+. I prefer it personally over normal Gold. Try to find him some Krill, my old oscar used to love krill. And don't limit your food selection to only pellets and flakes! Try to (if you can) get some Blood Worms, Earthworms, Frozen Peas (for Vigor and Colors), and that sort of thing. He'll love you for it.

Oops yah he gets plenty of fresh food, frozen and live brineshrimp/bloodworms as well as fresh veggies, he's just a picky bugger over his dry food LOL. He'll get earthworms when he gets bigger, he's not quite large enough yet though.

Okies will see if I can find krill, I also found a turtle food which claims to be a 100% whole dried shrimp, I'm getting it for some other critters I have, but would he like it also?

Can't find bio gold, pah, it sounds like a fantastic food

Wow, a picky oscar. Thats a first! :) I bet he'd love some whole dried shrimp. I used to bring mine cocktail shrimp and he'd devour them.

I also hear lately about people putting their Oscars on massivore pellets by Hikari. I've heard pretty great reviews of that stuff, although I've never tried it myself.

Dont bother with dry krill just buy a big bag of frozen pawns and feed them instead.
I buy bulk tetra Doromin off a guy off EBAy and my fish go mad for them. They are not as large as the normal tetra Doromin so the fish dont crunsh them up soo much, meaning that the water stays a lot cleaner at feeding time too.

If the oscar is over about 3" flakes are useless.

Look into Omega One, you can get cichlid pellets and also veggie pellets (Super Kelp), both floating. A really good food, all my CA/SA cichlids love the stuff, check out the ingredients.

You can also check out New Life Spectrum. Depending on where your oscar likes to feed, on the surface or bottom? Most of the NLS pellets available sink, but I do feed the NLS Jumbo Fish Formula to my larger fish, it is a bigger pellet at 4.5mm.

Is it just me or are the Wardley Shrimp Pellets incredibly messy. I quit using them and my vacuuming was cut in half.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

Oscars are messy eaters always they always have leftovers, find one good pellet and then use shrimp. beefheart , chopped smelt to put some size on him. Then add earthworms, small tadpoles and crayfish he'll be a monster in no time......:headbang2
