Pellets for Gars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am currently going through this as well only one female has shown an interest in them my best advice is to be patient it took me around 3-4 weeks to get her on them. As gars become larger they are more apt to eat the pellets. I have been lucky though as most of mine are eating prepared foods like krill and the silver sides. I have been trying to get them to stay on prepared foods cause the live minnows can carry a heavy parasite load not to mention its alot easier to thaw out a silverside or krill as needed instead of constantly going to get live all the time.

please do a search on converting to non-live foods, there are a ton of threads about that on the gar forum, and also look at the pinned topics too.

jpcampbell, unless you have very large adults, there would be no way to tell if your FLG is female or male (not that that is very important in pelllet conversion anyway), just an FYI.

good luck--
