Hey everyone, I just picked up my ornates and within that first day, i dropped in a couple cichlid gold mini pellets and bingo! they each took one. After what seemed like a pretty big bite though they each just kinda nosed the other 2 pellets and seemed to try to take a bite out of it but just couldn't, I'm wondering if maybe the pellets are a little to big?

How big is the fish? If the pellets seem to big, soften them in some water briefly and then cut. Some poly's also take time to accept pellets.

Good luck

Also, just kinda wondering as I'm watching them, I can clearly see a round bulge where the pellets that each are, it will just get digested away and there wont be any blockages right? think im just making stuff for myself to worry about now, want everything to be just perfect for these little guys :]

their each about 3 inches in length

yeah bichirs get lumps in the tummy when they eat anything, like a snake would, nothing to worry about. I feed mine krill and he looks like he ate a golf ball

alright awesome lol, just being so paranoid since these little guys are my first monsters I've ever kept :D

My Lap's just starting to take pellet food now and its taking massivore pellets that are a decent size, but they seem to chew them in their mouth for a fair bit before swollowing them.

ornates in my experience arent huge eaters, sens will come zooming out and thrash around food and eat till they are enormous, but ornates will find food and slowly eat until they are slightly plump, and then just nose the rest of the food. next feeding they will most likely just nose the food again, and continue until they no longer exhibit any bulge, then they will once again eat

When my o's were small they used to come to the surface for the hikari floating arowana sticks and they love catfish pellets and if the poly is small i break the massivore pellets into about 4 pieces and they love those too and prawn etc etc
