Just feed it well till its packing up good size, u actually don't need to starve the fish if u know how..what it diets for now?
keep feeding you aro with the food you have until he is very healthy, then.. starve him for a day i use hikari food sticks (they have strong smell) cut it into halves then drop it in front of him so he can see it, note only 1(one) food stick at a time until he eats them give him another one and so on..
