Penn Plax Cascade Canister filters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For a guy like me on a budget in these tough times, I purchased a Penn Plax Cascade 500 canister filter for a 20 gallon community tank. And you know what, i'm impressed. Stylish design, quiet operation, decent flow, decent media... nice little setup.

Hey, we all can have FX5s running, but a Cascade 1200 is an option i'll consider when I get there.

I know someone else that's real happy with that filter also. Another low cost filter is the Catalina canister filter. It's an Eheim knock-off for $60 instead of hundreds.

They are great for the money I have a few hobbyist friends that swear by them. I have only used one and it was solid and never faltered. They also have cheap effective media and are very versatile.

I have a Cascade 1200 and love it. It's never let me down and it's never leaked a drop.

another value one is jebo. the flow rate is under what it actually says but for the price i cant complain. although i heard some of the earlier models were not good, the newer ones i guess are alright.

I was thinking the same thing. Then just recently I heard (Here in setup and filtration I forgot who told me) they leak at the motor housing.
