Do you know of any good fish stores near Baltimore, closer to Silver Spring? Silver Spring is near DC, and I might be moving up there and Id like to know of some places to shop. Id like Snakeheads, and any other cool fish. Please let me know of some nice shops! Thanks, Andrew.

Snakeheads are illegal in the US. I doubt the LFS will carry them. If you are interested in helping to combat these invasives, you could always fish the Potomac. It's full of 'em.

You're wrong Channa gachua and Channa Ceylon are legal. But you cannot take these across state lines. And I recomend going to Scales.

When are you moving?

Maybe as soon as two weeks, but Im not sure. I would never take them to another state. But where is Scales? Is there any other stores you recomend I go to?

You won't find a lfs that will carry channa even if they're "legal" unless pat found out that andrew@scales was ok'd to get them? Even if they are legal most lfs wouldn't ever believe you.

There are a ton of good lfs' in maryland though. Not specifically silver spring but within 2 hours of driving time you could probably hit stores like aquarium center in randallstown and house of tropicals in glen burnie.

So how would it be possible to get a dwarf channa?

Aquarium center is now Aquarium Depot. Same old store but new owners. Will never be what it was five years ago. In silver spring you can check out Tropical Lagoon and Showcase (within 10 mins of each other). Also Totally Fish in Aspen Hill. In Gaithersburg check out Tropical Fish World. Scales is on the silver spring border. There is Rick's up in Urbana, House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie, and Congressional Aquarium in Rockville. There are a few others, but these should get you started. As far as picking up dwarf channa.. or any channa for that matter, I wish you luck.

Do you have any links to the code? Only thing I can find is: .01 Prohibitions A. Except as authorized by Code of Federal Regulations, Title 50, Part 16, a person may not import, transport, or introduce into the State any live fish or viable eggs of snakehead fishes of the Family Channidae, including but not limited to: ... and then goes into a list of which includes channa gachua. Ceylons aren't on the list but the "including but not limited to" part of the code has them covered. Not saying you are wrong, just never found anything to support otherwise. Randy CFB
