I have started a thread that you may or may not have seen about my new baby RTC, and decided to start an official progression thread. :grinno:

I have affectionately named him "Pepper" due to his spotting on his head and also because he has a hot pepper tail ^_^

He is currently in a 75 gallon bare bottom grow out, then off to my brand new 300g I am ordering soon, and finally he will end up in a 10-12' basement pond/pool.

This is his favorite (and only so far) spot to be in and I never see him leave. No aggression from his docile tankmate (a couple pokey angelfish) but still he is shy. I got him less than a week ago.

So far he has readily accepted earthworms, beef heart, and fish fillet. He was 3in standard length when I bought him.

Here is a video of me hand feeding him some fish fillet. He is still very shy and I'm trying to get him used to me, and associate me with food.

Can't wait to see him grow up. He already looks bigger :WHOA::naughty::WHOA::naughty::WHOA:

oh my gosh, so freaking adorable <3 i love seeing baby monsters grow up, raising them to monstah form is the best part of the hobby for me x3 oh and besides adorable, he's gorgeous! he looks quite happy ♥

Aw, thanks Skye. I sure hope so. When he freaks out in the pot like that I get nervous he is stressed but he eats in that condition and someone mentioned that they "wrangle their food" lol.

Wicked. I love watching rtcs grow :D

Tonight I tried feeding Pepper everything. I was so excited to get home from work to feed him, and he just won't eat. I left him with some fish filet before I left, assuming he ate it as its gone. Now he is being finicky and won't eat fillet, earthworm (Which he bit but didn't eat), and even a bit of shrimp which is a new food for him. Normally worms always work... Am a bit worried :(

Am going to do a 50% water change maybe that will help. Nitrates are a bit high 40ish, so definitely due for one.

Talked to my dad earlier and after trying to lecture me about having a pond in the basement when there is nothing down therE (unfinished), I finally convinced him it would be good and that I enjoy it enough .... And then he proceeded to help me plan a build that would be better than a pool.
So now we are thinking about doing a 2x4 or 4x4 framed 8x8 or 10x10 pool. On the inside will be plywood walls, and then "house wrap" to help insulate and also to protect the liner. Then a liner will go in. Will probably build a box behind it by the wall to help more with insulation on both sides to hold filtration and such, which I plan on making out of stacked plastic drawers or boxes, probably two of them.

Wondering if a pool liner will work of if I should just get a pond liner?

Ended up taking out more water ... probably 2/3. Want to make sure his water his nice and clean.

He still won't leave his flower pot. Going to try and get him to eat later tonight after he settles down after the water change.

When I tried feeding him, he would squirm his body to kick the food up and out of his pot. Cute, but I wish he'd eat!

I think I figured it out. I put in a bubble wand last night. I think he may have been annoyed or nervous with it on. So I turned it off. Will try feeding again in the early morning. Going to go remove gravel in my 125 now in prep for my rays that are arriving tues....

Pepper has grown 1.5" since I got him on May 16 ... 11 days :)

I bought some RAW shrimp today to see if he'll accept it better than the cooked.

This is how I found him when I took him out to measure ...

LOL I had moved the pot like this because he was behind it instead of inside of it, but alas when I got home he was inside of it again.
