peppermint shrimps, how bad are they?

I keep reading that peppermint shrimp MAY attack and kill green star polyps. I have some aiptasia growing and I am going to add a peppermint shrimp to keep them in check before they start goin nuts. But I really like my green star polyps, how many of you have successfully kept peppermint shrimps with star polyps?
 
depends on how big the tank is but in smaller ones up to 30 gal i say one but in the mid rang from there to about 70 gal i say a group of 4 i can keep going but just give me specs it be easier lol. but it also depends how far along your tank is so let me know on that to.
 
Good question,,, i would like some too in my 190 but heard also that they will eat many kinds of polyps???

I've had them eat polyps so there not 100% safe but if you have a good healthy enviroment then they will get enough to eat, or eat a polyp every now and then but you wouldn't notice just a trim if you know what i mean.

I have a 125 gallons tank and have Star Polyps with 5 peppermint shrimps and I have no problems with the peppermints... Like humans fish and inverts behaviors are similar... there are good and bad guys... If you have aiptasia problems I recommend peppermint for the problem, and keep monitoring them...
 
I haven't had problems. As far as aptasia, even then peppermints only eat the smaller stuff. As far as other solutions I have heard of people with joes juice or lemon juice injecting it into the stalks of it, or target spraying boiling water on them with results.
 
I thought about the boiling water spraying thing but its just theres prolly gonna b some aiptasia i havent seen yet under rocks and stuff and the shrimp will find them easier than me... ive spotted 3 aiptasia so far.

and the fish of doom,

the tank is a 10 gal nano but i figured the shrimp might be a good thing to keep the polyps from overgrowing the tank cuz they are not really suited for a 10 gal tank, they were just on one of my piece of rock and i really like them...

k i recomend a smaller peppermint shrimp if you can get one like 3/4 of an inch should be good.
just one though.
 
i wold recoommend pepps they wont attack gsp's unless they are starvin. their first choice in food would be aptaisia before any thing else. just be sure to feed them other things to keep them happy. G/L - chris
 
you know I think as long as you get the real peppermint and not lysmata rathbunane a species from the east coast often mislabeled as a peppermint shrimp you want to obtain the pinker shrimp the true peppermint lysmata wurdemanni. they usually are fine if feed properly and kept an eye on I have 3 in a reef tank ate all my aiptasia and never have touched any zoo's, palythoa's, sps, or lps, I just make sure I feed them so they don't get a urge to snack but never really heard too many problem's with that issue I think it is more a urban legend then truth.
