can anyone tell me how to tell the difference
im trying to purchase a true perc but the shops give me conflicting info
and i dont kno who to trust
one shop tells me its the black around the white markings:
the perc has it the oscellaris doesnt
while the other tells me its the color:
the perc is a deeper orange and the oscellaris is much lighter.

anyone kno the truth cuz i want a pair of true percs
thnx in advance for any info

Ocellaris generally have a black border to the white markings, percula do not. The ocellaris is often a somewhat duller color as well.

are you sure i always thought perculas do have it.

they both have black borders. from my observations. . .they do tend to be more bold and /or thicker on ocellaris (extremely thin on percula but still there making id on juvis hard trying to use this method) but Guppy is right on the orange. Esp on adults the true percs have a much much more vivid orange. Juveniles are hard to distinguish from each other. Find a good dealer that gets there clowns from a decent breeder like ORA and has both available for sale. Or try to find a local person breeding thru your local saltwater club. There has to be someone around breeding clowns.
Oh and I know it doesn't really help but. . .percula has 10 spines in the first dorsal fin and ocellaris has 11.

I got some sweet 2''-3'' misbar true percs from ORA in FL last week. They were supposed to be ON SALE where I work for $9.99 but some how corporate screwed up on the price and they were coming up at $7.25. They were all gone in a few hours lol.
