sunfish are absolutely beautiful in a tank and they get to a maximum of about 5 inches or maybe 6 max. they in my opinion look alot like discus fish which we pay like $80 a fish for. I have two blue spotted in my tank now and they are awesome and what an attitude.. they have already after two days claimed their territory in my 75 gal housed with a 4 inch gold fish and two catfish. go with sunfish.

Darters?? I would have to agree though sunfish would be best, chubs are neat. The largest coontail(yellow perch) that i have seen is about 3 lbs in my area.

How big a yellow perch gets has a lot to do with the environment and where they were collected. Where i live i seldom see one past 6 or 8 inches. I've seined up lots of them. these live in black water creeks nd lakes, they are very brightly colored but they just don't get as large as they do up north.

Have you thought of Blue Spotted sunfish? Or banded or black banded sunfish? you could keep a swamp dater or two a flounder, ghost shrimp, dwarf crayfish, inland silversides, or iron colored shiners. All of these would be found in the same habitat as blue spotted sunfish, even dwarf sunfish.
