perfect aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if your tankz are that measurement, i would have to say either a black for silver would be the better bet because their bodies are much more flexible and turning around n shorter width tanks would decrease the risk of gill curl or any other illnesses like that. they usually tend to be a lot more flexible than lei's and jar's because of they way there body structure is built

I agree, a 240 may last for quite a while. Eventually a 30" plus silver or black aro deserves to be in a larger tank, and wouldn't recommend anything under 30" wide.

i agree also. i have 1 silver in my 300 96x30x25. he is only 18 months old and about 25". he may even outgrow my tank.

If you want to go for a community, try silvers or blacks. They tend to do much better with other fish. I, myself prefer a Jardini. They just look cooler imo. Sadly with a jardini, it's gonna be pretty hard to get a community going. It's not impossible, just unlikely. Silvers and blacks also tend to grow a bit longer than jardinis. A good 5-10 inches more but Jardini's can outweigh them as much as 2x. A tank your size would be ideal for the shorter but stockier jardini.

I just got done reading a great thread in the arro forum has a TON of info there about their size, food recomendations, diseases and cures .... I do have a question though for anyone what is the right Ph for black arrowannas ?

the right ph is your ph from the tap...all fresh water fish will adapt to your ph...saltwater is more demanding in this area...as long as you aclimate your fish you wont have an issue...just so long as it is stable and not a huge jump they will not suffer ph shock...of all freshwater fish rays are the most sensitive to ph and they are fine in all ranges with proper aclimation...

the tank is to small for a black or silver

i cant see the point in a jar as chances are that when it gets big it will be the only fish in the tank and in a 8x2x2 i think thats a waste of a big tank

i know nothing about Lei

if you have to buy one get the black they stay smaller than silvers and you dont get the nasty drop eye as much but you will need to upgrade at some point

hey gonefishin.. if you really wanna do justice.. build a pond :) I started with one silver and now have four.. i really dont think a tank 200+ gallons or 300+ gallons would do justice to them.. if you have the time, space and budget and are considering a silver..try an amazon setup.. else a 300+ gallon tank with 24 inches or a lil more for them to turn around would be great.. cheers.. all the best with your aro :)

even one silver or black can thrive in that tank size.

For a couple of years perhaps. Even if its 20' long, a silver won't do well in a 2' wide tank for much more than 2-3 years at the most.

Any aro can [and should] be capable of reaching 24" in length, so logic would dictate that they need a tank that is wider than 2'. Obviously some get there faster than others, with a silver you'll only have a couple of years before needing something wider, and with a jar it will be longer.
