A friend recently bought me (by accident) a bag of Perlite when intending to get vermiculite so that I could repot some of my plants. Perlite is useful in potting plants (mix soil, vermiculite, and a little perlite for drainage help) but wasn't what I needed.
I decided to Google uses for it to save her a trip back to the store, and to my surprise discovered that folks report using it (at a fine grade) as a low cost replacement for diatomaceous earth in diatom filters.
Anybody here tried it? If you have, how were the results?
