this isn't really a disease but I couldn't think of anywhere else to post this so here it goes:
so today i decided to add my male convict into my 75 gal (he's been living in a 10 gal for last few weeks cus i couldn't find place to put him). anyways, the tank was already established and my female green terror was running the show in there, she's about an inch larger than him so i wasn't expecting him to be too crazy. long story short, i come back an hour later and i find the con and GT going at it but my female had her eyes "pop" out. its kinda hard to explain, but im sure you've seen a blind fish and there's a white film that covers their eye - she kinda has that except that the white film only covers the middle of her eye and the protective thing around her eye is pop out. i've separated them and, using a net, tested to see if my GT was blind but see seems to be able to still see.

my question is:
is this permanent damage? will it lead to blindness? is there anything i can do to slightly "restore" the eye?

the pics aren't that good and they don't really show the popy-ness of her eye

I would separate the fish from the con and bump temperature, add salt. The white bit is most likely permanent but as long as you keep the water really clean it should heal up. There is a chance the eye will end up completely covered by a cataract. I had a jar that scraped his eye and it had that white bit yours has. As time passed the jars eye was completely covered.

Agred on the raise in temp and salt. I had an Oscar which had a run in with my GT and ended up with an eye like that, however, his healed up fully over a week or so. I'm not saying yours definately will, but cichlids have some of the best self repair systems I have ever seen in fish. Good luck!

Op mentioned "pop" in his thread. If the pupil popped, the the fish is blind. If its just a scratch on the Cornea, then clean water and salt can cure it.

thanks guys, your post gives me hope that my GT might heal up a bit. the right side already seems better today. the left side still has me worried but at least its not both eyes anymore. The con was taken out the moment i saw the damage me caused.
