i have a lingering case of ich. seems every time i get it cleared up, it comes right back.

using nox-ich, heat is at 83, but i haven't fiddled with the lights or added salt.

Starting to get the same problem here.

At first i thought it was the white sand on my cleanup crew since they spend their time down there.

Salt treatment and heat works best for me, Go ahead and put your heat up to 85 and keep it there. Thats how hot my tanks are all the time.

I use heat/salt as well. No need to use medications, thats how you kill fish....

I think the heat is the key, the salt plays a minor role.
I raise the temperature up to AT LEAST 87F over a few hours. You don't have to do it over a couple days like some people say, never hurt my fish. Add salt gradually over a couple days until you have the equivalent of 0.5 tablespoon per gallon, anything more seems like your making brine.

Leave it like this until all the ich is no longer visible on the fish. Then maintain it for another 10 days. This should get rid of it. I think the problem with ich is people don't treat long enough and thats why it returns.

Best of luck!!

:iagree: the prolonged heat will fix them up also do some large water changes sa/ca cichlids can take alot of heat i know it's not recamended but i have kept these fish in outdoor ponds in the V.A. SUMMER HEAT IN THE 90'S and they all did well good growth and all that so heat them up for 2 weeks.lol

Keep your tank close to 80 deg F. normally, and to treat raise it to 86 deg. My fish don't get it often.

do a good water change run some new copper to remove old meds. remove the carbon and add recommended dose of coppersafe. give it two weeks ick should be gone. this has always worked for me. then do 20-25% water change then add new carbon to remove the copper.
