I have a small pond in front of my house that's about 130g. It's over grown with water lillys and a pond grass that I can't remember the name to. I have a few feeder goldfish :goldfish: that I threw in there a few years ago and they've multiplied to I don't know how many. I almost never feed them and never change the water. The only maintenance I do is in the spring after everything melts I try to scoop out leaves and muck. I top off the water once in awhile during summer but other than that I do nothing else. It has a waterfall that provides circulation and aeration but I don't even filter the water.

My point is have I set up a self sustaining mini ecosystem by coincidence and or neglect? :D When I started the pond I maintained it pretty well. Fed the fish regularly and kept it clean. Had a UV filter in line with the waterfall and dechlorinated new water. Now I got so busy with other stuff that maintenance has dropped to nil. I thought for sure it would turn into a cesspool but it has actually thrived.

well how do you think natural ponds sustain themselves lol. I know you didnt ask but I would add some sunfish like pumkpinseed and crayfish(white or orange morph would look nice and visible):nilly:
