I need a pleco that can eat the alge off the tank, eat the stuck on food of my bare bottem tank, that stays small and that wont suck off the slime coat off my catfish? Any plecos fit that mold?

get a dwarf bristlenose
imo one of the nicest, and cheapest plecos you can buy

why a dwarf... the regular bristlenoses only get to be 5-6 inches anyway...

bristlenoses are great algae eaters.. they will clean up a whole tank in a matter of days..

they eat pretty much everything except slimecoat and plants.. lol mine will take pellets, shrimp, and of course veggie tablets..

Get a bulldog or rubber-lipped pleco. Stay small won't bother other fish very active and one of the best algae cleaners IMO. Got a 3 inch specimen at Pet's Smart for $2.99.

Thanks for the suggestions. I dont have any clue what some off you have said to get but his with help me narrow it down. I only have one off brand lfs. They carry a good deal of fish but uncommon. Would the bristlenose be the best then? Any common pleco to avoid?

Bristlenose would be the best. Avoid any Panque sp.

Sorry i have no experience with plecos.. what would be a Panque sp?

Panaque species would be like a Royal Pleco. They tend to prefer worm and not algae and they have been known to suck the slime off of fish more. There are some which are harmless like Clown Plecos which are also a Panaque species, but aren't very good algae eaters.
