I just received some Peruvian silver dollars that are apparently called 'Palometa', and grow to somewhere around 25-30cm. This is the only information I have on them from the exporter. They're about 1.5-2", and sometimes show some vertical tiger-like stripes. They've got a single spot just above their lateral line right below the dorsal fin (almost exactly in the middle, front-to-back), and some have a yellow/orange hue to their anal fins (which are smooth and show no signs of a hook or anything).

I know pics mean everything, and I'll see what I can get later, but they're skittish and not the easiest to photo.

Palometta refers to a Jack also called Gafttopsail Pompano or also a South American name for RBPs. Not sure about Silver Dollars but isn't the Peruvian Silver Dollar the Redhook?

They're definitely not RBP's, and there are way more than one species of silver dollar from Peru. I got 4 in my last shipment; red hooks (which I think themselves can probably be broken down further), schomburgki, these 'palometa' and then six (which I've now lost) that are similar to red-hooks only small hooks with no red, and more of a silver base colour with no yellow hue that the red hooks show. I know they're a different species because I had a lack of oxygen issue and they were the only ones that died (and all six at that), so they definitely have higher oxygen requirements than the other silver dollars.

If the palometa are a jack, then they look like silver dollars when small, with none of the fin extensions and are completely freshwater. I'll try to get some pics when I return from vacation.

Any pics? BUMP
