Looking for a new place for me and my bro after my roommate graduate and move out, I went by an apartment complex, and there policy is a pet deposit for each tank!!!
Considering I currently have a 10, 29, 55(not setup yet) and a 65 that’s kind of out of the question.
I have rented from two houses here and they only made us pay a pet deposit for the dog…
What have you MRK apartment renters paid as far as pet deposits or monthly rate?

I rent houses, not paid a dime for any fish deposit. Have paid a 100 dollar deposit with a dog that will be returned if there is no damage.Sounds like your getting screwed man.

Your deposit is refunded when you move out. It's to make sure that you can pay for water damage when something leaks. A lot easier for the landlord to pay for damages from your deposit than for him to have to chase you down to pay.

I had to pay a pet deposits for my cats, but that was a year and a half after i moved in (damn! Only 6 months short of not having to pay one!), but my apt has no policy regarding tanks on the 1st floor and no bigger than 75g on the second. My friends apt just makes you have renters insurance.

I have an Apt in Greensboro, I see you're from NC too. My apartment charges something like 300 or 400 as a security deposit for bigger animals, dogs, cats, etc. They said that, up to 50% is refundable, I believe, I can't really remember. When I moved in, I told them I had some fish tanks and she said they were fine and they haven't charged me anything for them. I'm on the second floor and the biggest one is a 55g so nothing monster, but I've got three tanks and I'm possibly adding a 4th.

I'd say look around, this is the first I've heard of being charged per tank. When I was looking for places, everywhere I looked said that fishtanks were no problem.

I just have a deposit for my dog nothing for my tanks. They have come in and seen them before while doing other odds and ends and havent said a thing about them
