I went to a pet fish market in Shenzhen, a city in southern China, today and took a couples of photos of some gars using my mobile. I was amazed at how they resembled alligators viewing from above.
Btw, I saw a beautiful 40cm arapaima on sale. The contrast of dark and orangish-red on its body was absolutely stunning. The owner asked for 800 RMB which is approx. a hundred US dollars. I would've bought it off the bat if I had not stumbled accross this site and found out what a monster fish I would be dealing with down the road. (I took a photo of it but the photo only showed my reflexion on the glass, so no good to post it here
