So i went to pet supplies plus today, to buy a 55 gallon filter.
I decided on the penguin 75 gallon filter and saw that it came with two free filter bags. I didnt see the two bags so i took them out of a preopened box (same filter) next to it, and put them in the box. I guess there were allready 2 in the filter itself, because at the register the manager ripped open the box and was like im not selling this your stealing, even though I just went there an hour before and spent 30 bucks on new glass tops, and well over 100 on fish/feeders this summer alone, so much that most ppl there know me as a regular and ask if i want more feeders when i walk in. When I tried to explain to him i didnt see the filter bags in the filter, and that id still buy the filter he kicked me out of the store and took out paper like he was going to write down my license plate number. Has anyone else been treated this rudely, and is there a number I can call in to complain?:screwy:

That was pure stupidity, and there is no sugar coating it. Your worries shouldn't be about being treated rudely. You got off easy. If you got caught doing that at Walmart, you would be talking to the judge about now.

That is a clear case of shoplifting no matter how you play it off.

i do have to say, there is no way around this. that wasn't the store owner treating you rudely, that was your own fault. if it says it comes with something and you aren't sure it has it, ask somebody, don't just take it upon yourself.

I would agree, consult the manager or an associate. Sorry about your luck, and I know sometimes you feel like it's no big thing to take it upon yourself and check. As if you didn't check and you went home without getting the free cartridges they'd think you were trying to pull one over when you called/or came back asking for them. Just the way stores are. You're always guilty if there's a possibility you could be.

bad idea dude

if you go back he will most likely give you trespass warning, you should shop elsewhere from now on.

If the op is telling the truth then the manager was being a d-bag. On the other hand it looks bad(for him) and he(manager) was probably in the right from a business side. Too bad, don't steal! J/k

ehh.. That manager is retarded, Technically its not shoplifting if you didn't leave the store.. Otherwise they would have to lockup anyone who forgot a package of paper towel on the bottom of their cart.

If you offered to pay for it and explained the situation then just chalk it up to bad luck.

I do agree that you will probably we watched HEAVILY if you ever do decide to go in again... Is there a "store owner" you could call and talk to.. I would try that and explain if it really bothers you.. Or just shop elsewhere.

i say it was all your fault and consider yourself lucky it was technically shoplifting
