Petco adventure

Went to petco to get a ropefish and some loachs today.
Usually they have pretty common fish
(guppies,corys,patties, and such. No true monster fish or such. Usually!)

Well today was different
They had tiger loachs,ropefish,clown knifefish, and even a tiger shovelnose. All of these were under $20. I was also amazed that they didn't look starved in anyway.

I never have days like that at Petco or Petsmart. I have heard countless stories about picking up great finds at Petco/Petsmart that were mislabeled or sold dirt cheap.

Not me. I pay for the owner of my LFS to put his kids through college.

I went in for some Krill today. Saw a TSN (3")and some Bichir (4-6"). The TSN was marked down to 20 from 39 and the Bichir were $5.00.

I've seen them with crenicichla "Tapajos Red" but i knew i couldn't buy it because i don't have the space.

i'm in CA, SF east bay area - at the petco near me i've never seen jack, horrible dirty tanks. At the petsmart however, i've seen and bought beautiful oscars, tinfoil barbs, and believe it or not, a red snook. i've also seen green terrors and jack dempseys so you never know.

The petco/petsmart chains have a very good line a fish available to them, and most will special order fish for you. They even have silver arowanas available sometimes.

PetCo has the liberty to order what fish they desire, based on the manager discretion.. Some are auto-shipped or always instock.

PetSmart has the same fish year round, and rotate in a series of specialty fish every few months that aren't regularly carried or seasonal.

I have a pet world by my place and it usually always has a great selection. They even special order for you. And to my surprise, some of them actually know what they're talking about!

It all depends on the management. Some are good, some not so good.
