Here's my female red bay snook. One of my oldest fish, I've had her for about 5 years. She came in with my first order from Jeff Rapps at a cute 3". She's now full grown at 12".

DANG!! Did you get both of them from Rapps?! REALLY KICKIN MYSELF NOW! That red coloration is outstanding! WOW!! IS your male gonna color up like that too or is it mainly females that get that nice? Seems like that the way it is...females are always better looking...:P

The difference between males and females in the red Petenia is that the females remain a more solid orange/red color. The males have more of a lattice-like pearly pattern on their cheeks & sides. Often the males will have more red on the top of their bodies and the sides will be less so. Both are stunning as adults.

I guess I forgot how nice they looked as adults. Only downside i can see about gettin some is that i was trying to keep the 125/300 gal strictly SA cichlids...:(....

If you want a SA cichlid that has a bit in common with the red bay snook, try Caquetaia myersi.

yeah...i am seriously interested in the Caquetaia family..particularly spectable and krausii....both AWESOME fish. Someone at the ACA was sellin spectables for $4!! They must've been small though i guess..but still! I tried to get some but by the time i got there they were all sold...sucked.

Specs are great. Here's a pic of mine. I don't have him anymore, but he was truly spectacular (pun intended). Great color. A bit of a prick though, I must add!
