This is my male red bay snook. He's about 10" give or take. One of my all time favorite cichlids, and I don't know why they aren't more popular...

Great fish!! .. I guess people dont keep them for fear of being called snooky snookerson.

LOL.. i had to do it KP. SOrry.

Yeah, that must be it! :p

They do have big mouths and they do know how to inhale smaller fish with them too. No different than a Cichla really. Well, perhaps a little less voracious. And they don't get nearly as large a Cichla, which is certainly good news for medium sized tankmates!

yeah...figured they were about like a pbass....i am kickin myself know for not gettin one...didn't know where i would put them though....they don't seem like a highly aggressive cichlid...probably wouldn't of done to swell in with my BBelt and RD...and i would be afraid to put it in my 125 for fear of it eating my Hoplarchus psittacus...lol....

Yeah, they are not aggressive at all really. They occasionally flare up and try to be tough guys, but they're all bluff really. Definitely not a good tankmate for a midas or blackbelt. They'd probably be fine with psittacus as long as the psitts were more than half the size of the snooks. Jeff Rapps has some 3" ones currently. How big are your psitts?

My largest psitt. is pushing 4.5"...possibly even 5" haven't really tried measurin it. Got them when they were about 2.5 to 3" or so. Grown rather quickly. Smallest one I wold say is about 3" or so. So still little runts. I have a festivum that is about 3"...but they are pretty deep bodied..as are my chocolates...lol...just worried about the psittacus since they are my fav. fish and my babies! :P

Snooks would mix fine with all the fish you mentioned. The festivum might eventually get eaten as they don't get as big, but he may not. A full grown male snook is unlikely to reach more than 15". Females to 12". How big is the tank these guys are al in?
