Petenia Splendida, Sexual Matruity?

I've got one whos 11" and is a male as it has been bred, he has lots of squiggly markings on his size and is much darker than the females.
We've got a pair at work that are less than 5 inches that are showing a lot of pair bonding activity, but no breeding yet. I have a snook from a proven pair (I didn't want the female because frankly I don't want babies 
) who is only about 7"-8"
Per cichlid forum's species profile - males grow larger than females. That's pretty vague. In the pairs I've seen the male (or the one I assume is male since it is the larger of the two and female cichlids very rarely choose smaller mates) seems to be more orange, esspecially around the face...again pretty vague. Anyone know a more reliable way to sex?

I've seen the parents of my snooks, thee male is 7-8" and the female is 6-7". The male is definitely more colorful and seems to have alot more sparkling on his sides. Other then that the fins and body shape seem similar. I guess I'll have to wait to see what my 4 snooks are.
