Im thinking of getting a couple large groups of Petros and i am curious what a good tank size would be for groups of 9+? What do you guys keep yours in? Any pics are welcome as well. I have a 336 DIY tank but if this is too big i would build/buy something smaller. I will need a second tank anyway as im planning 2 groups and they will be species only tanks. Thanks for the input.

from my limited exp(exp being time spent w/friends who keep petros successfully), 8ft-long seems like good/decent length. 6ft is doable but petros i've seen seem to do better in 8ft. good luck!

Petros will not cross as long as they're different species. I would put both groups in your big tank and call it a day

Oh ok so i can safely mix the red bulu with the polyodons then? 8ft tank is crazy big something i dont have the room for at the moment. My 6'x3'x2' wouldn't be big enough? Will 336 gallons support that large of a group of petros? I am thinking about 18 total between the bulu and polys

That tank size is fine. At one point I had 22 large adult longola in a 180. Make sure you filter like crazy and are prepared for 50% wc a week minimum. I used a 40 gal sump and a 2262 on that tank

I have a 100 gallon sump and a mechanical filter plumbed in the back and i have some custom wet/dry trickle type filtration i made myself underneath. Plenty of filtration. I originally built it to be a ray tank. Chances are i would probably do 10-20% wc daily like i do with all my other pools and tanks. Well except my malawi. I dont do any wc on them just top off evaporation.

Swk pretty much covered it... I keep 17 adults in my 190(90"20"24") tank and they're doing good. Petros will eat and eat and produce a lot of waste.

I don't think bulu and poly will be a good idea to put together. Polys are very aggressive and will/can stress the bulus.. But if you decide to keep both groups just make sure to keep a good number of both group to lessen the aggression.

I was going to get a group of 9 of each. I have no problem doing species only tanks especially if im going to have to worry about the $450-500 bulu being stressed out by the polys. Too much money per fish to risk when it can be avoided.

Look into f1. They're half the price or even cheaper and I've seen f1 polys go for 15-30 a piece...

What about buying them as a fry? They'll grow in no time with the tank you have...
