So me and the wifey were in petsmart for some nonfish related things, and we stumble over to the fish anyway. she just loved these two convicts. Her words were, look hunny, they stick together like you and I. Well so we got the two lil buggers w/out even asking any questions. and of course the young lady at petsmart didnt have much knowledge and didnt bother to tell us they were male and female. nor did she mention, CONVICTS BREED LIKE RABBITS! lol. so 2 fries latter, we still got the pair. Mom has beautiful colors, Dad has gotten huge, love the big lump on his head, and all is great. we still have about 10 babies left after giving some to friends, lol i told them to watch for coloration and let me know. So my lesson learned is always ask question when u go to a large chain store when buying fish, or you'll end up with LOADS of babies. thanks for listening, hope you enjoyed the laugh, laughing as i'm typing this just thinking about it.

I think the lesson is more: research your fish before purchase.

I used to work at a bigbox petstore. For $7 an hour, you aren't going to get Axelrod. Heck, the only reason I was hired was because I knew reptiles and ended up doing a lot of research in my spare time to learn about the other animals we kept.

Very true, just like any fish you buy research first.

^haha i do that too...ill see something i like then pull out my phone and do a quick google search

And at some point if you go far enough in the hobby and get "specialized" on a certain type of fish most fish stores won't even have something you actually want. :D Ignorance is bliss sometimes.
