the ones at petsmart are probably P.senagaulus they get about a foot give or take. but i would love to know what species is in that bottom pic.

Wha you have just bought is a Polypterus senegalus they each 10-12 inches
the bottom pic is Polypterus endlicheri

I occasionally see senegalus's at various Petcos, marked as Dinosaur eels. Some Small LFSs do it as well.

you got a p. senegalus, it won't grow too big about 1ft a most, the bottom pic is endlicheri congicus, never thought that it would grow that huge!

not wanting to derail this thread, but how much do the polypterus go for? im just asking because i went to one of the FS in melbourne and i asked how much the polys were, not sure on what species, but a 6 incher would cost me $1000 AUD and 8 inchers are selling for $1500 AUD!

In Aus bichirs are a pretty much black market fish
P.senegalus $6-7.00
the rest are in the $30.00 on up depending on size and species
