Forgot to mention. I went to get some sword plants from them, bad Idea. They cut off all the new baby leaves... I asked them not to, they said "Oh I was just taking off the dead ones..."

I stopped into a PetSmart late last night and it seemed like a decent place to get small fish... I'm going back today to look at their selection of cichlids and oscars... I'll let y'all know more about that...

I guess I'm lucky; at one of my local Petsmarts is a part time employee that is an avid FW aquarist with a PhD in Marine Biology. She has helped raise the acumin of her fellow employees and yours truly

their little tags/cards say that snooks can live in 30gal tanks :nilly:

oh, they said needlenose gars can live happily in 30 g tanks!

This other employee with actual knowledge stated that they need a 55g or beest a 90g. I was happy to hear someone knows their stuff.

I have never had any sick fish from Petsmart.

I think it really depends on the PetSmart. I have seen some that make me want to level the place b/c its so bad. Others I have nothing but good things to say.

I've noticed a lack of knowledge even at some of my lfs and petsmart. Your best source of knowledge is to do your own research and get on forums like this one so you can ask people about their personal experiences with the fish that interest you. I go to petsmart for medication, food, and dog food. I've seen some decent fish in some of their stores. They are smart since they deal with the general public and not hardcore fishkeepers that they sell mainly community fish. You know, what you would buy for your child to get them interested in the hobby.
