So looking into getting another gar and PetSolutions has some. My question is they have them labeled as Lepisosteus osseus, which would be a Longnose Gar. My issue is, the picture that represents it appears to be a Florida Gar and the common name they have for it is Florida Longnose Gar. The description describes a Longnose so I'm thinking it might actually be a Longnose. Anybody ever buy a gar from them?

I think those places always just throw whatever picture they have up. If you really want to know call or email them

I'm actually the Live Deliveries Manager for PetSolutions, so I thought I might be able to shed some light for you. I went back and eyeballed these this morning in our fish room, they are Floridas and not Longnose currently. The issue we have is the wholesaler calls them "Florida Longnose Gar", despite the fact that obviously they must be either a Longnose or a Florida and not both. I have changed the scientific to Lepisosteus sp. to better reflect the nonspecificity. The wholesaler sends us Longnose, and they send us Florida and they call them all the same thing. 95% of the time they are Florida. I will update our description to reflect this as well.

If I can be of any further help with regard to our live fish/plants/reptiles, don't hesitate give me a call at the office. You can reach me through the 800 number, just ask to speak to John.

John, welcome to MFK! Thanks for clearing up the misunderstanding!
