So I bought (3) 50 lb bags of pool filter sand about 5 months ago. Well, my stingray started to develop open sores on the bottom of her belly so I was wondering why this substrate would bother her. Upon closer inspection (which I should've done in the first place) the pfs I purchased is made by US Silica! So, I've slowly been trying to remove it to help cure the open sores on the bottom of her while keeping the water as clean as possible. My question is will this same substrate bother my wolf fish since it's some what of a bottom dweller too?

I guess some may use silica in their product while other companies dont. Hit or miss but I would definitly check the ingrediants for pfs.

I thought all pool filter sand was silica based?

hmm...guess I"m confused then because I thought silica sand was sharper around the edges, thus being quite hard on fish such as stingrays and others with softer undersides.
