Hi,

ive done a few water changes since i got my ray. probly up to the third one now.and im due for a water change soon, but im just waiting for my ph buffers and prime to be deliverd. that i orderd online.

Scenario:
So i did a ph test and i noticed that it seams to be always high, eg 7.4 ish and I used the normal acid down ph powder before, and i was getting very minimal reductions, (i added it gradually, but i added alot well over 10 tea spoons) (over time) but it did nothing.. so i went to the LFS and was advised to get some ACID BUFFER, but it raises the KH, and hardness of water, ive been using alot of it as per insturctions and it just doesnt seam to be working.... (it did work the during the first water change i used it for)

Problem:
So after i added some more ACID buffer last night, and she started climing up the walls and tuching the lids even, catching bubles and bringing it down, etc (looks like shes playing)

But she never behaved this way before.... Its as if she learnt a new trick....(keeping in mind shes only a month old)

Questions:
Is this because she is un happy with the water paramters? Maybe the water is too hard for her?

I know alot of rays climb the wall regulalry i just wanted to check...

So now i plan on using acid buffer + alkaline buffer which allows me to target a ph. From the same company that make prime...Thoughts on this?

Also is a ph taht is changing alot bad for a ray? I know its not good, but is it a serious problem. (I plan on brining the ph down to about 7 on the next water change, then 6.5 after that) and maintaining that ph...Thoughts?

So for all you guys who have high ph tap water? How do you bring down the ph and keep it stable?

Cheers,
Isuru

im not even gonna read this.... just do water changes from your tap... dont mess with the ph

pH of 7.4 will be just fine. You won't find many ray keepers that would argue with that. Rays are sensitive to pH swings so like Nic said, leave the additives out and just do normal water changes. My ray tank is 7.6

No, its becuase you put so much darn chemicals in the water...The only stuff you NEED to use on a stingray tank, is prime, salt, and prazipro. AS long as your PH isnt like 10 or 4 your ray is gunna be fine.

i upped the temp on my tank over the last 2 days, that helped my retic become way more active....

wait, how long have you had your ray?

ive had her for about about 3-4 weeks,

shes about 6 weeks old.
im doing a water change today and keeping it simple!
no ph funk, i wanna try remove the crap taht i got from LFS out of the water.

Theres no sign of stress or anything, shes eating fine, just doing the wall climb all of a sudden. But i just want the best for her, so yeh. I will keep the chemicals to a low, and just use the tap ph.

and killarbb, lol thanks but ur comment seamd abit random?

cheers for the help guys.

just pointing out that the activity may be coming from another change. did anything else in your tank change?

i, too, am against chemicals into the tank.

ohkay,

nah thats all i changed, but yeh did a 30% water change last night, and she seams back to her normal self..

its so much easier to do water changes too now, less messing around.

Prime + Tapwater + little bit of salt.... = FTW!

thanks for the help guys.
got my answer feel free to close thread mods..
