do most of you do pH tests regularly and look after it?(with the increase/decreaser)?
what happens if a fish is placed in a tank with a pH that is off it's normal range. by a few(~2.0~) and a major one(2.0+)

does water hardness affect freshwater species also?

Most FW fish can adjust to whatever pH you have in your tank, granted you do regular weekly water changes, so it doesn't drop too low (acid). Hardness really isn't a problem withe FW fish either. Just be sure to acclimate any new fish you purchase & keep up with your water changes. I test for neither in my FW tanks.

It CAN have a strong effect on spawning if you have any plans in that direction and from what I've read it can also affect the early growth rate of young fish. FW fish can and do however adapt to a wide variaty of differing water conditions.
