Hi everyone i have a concern about my pH level in my bgk tank i know the recommended level for him but my apartment just had a water treatment setup put in and the pH of my tap water is 8.0. That being said i have a friend with well water i could get water from there house to do water changes its just going to be a huge hassle to transport water 5 miles is it worth the hassle of using the well water or will my bgk do OK with a pH of 8.0
Thanks for the replies in advance,

Joe

Your bgk will be fine. pH hardly matters at all in captive fish, most will do just fine from 6.5-8.2, maybe even less/more. I've honestly never even heard of a fish dyeing or suffering from an "improper pH" the only harm is a drastic or sudden increment or drop in pH, so he should be fine but make sure it doesn't swell up to 8.0 too fast. I kept my bgk in a pH of 8.0...

Your BGK will do fine at a pH of 8. The problem is, however, that you don't want to shock him with the change. What's your pH now? If it's too different you'll want to perform a series of small, daily water changes to acclimate your fish to the new alkalinity.

My tap (and therefore tank) water is close to 8 and my bgk is thriving.

They're not too sensitive to pH. pH 8 should be fine.
