does anyone here actually adjust their pH? just seems like pH doesn't do that much unless wild fish or breeding

Mine is 8.3 out of the faucet.I tried to soften it up and lower it and all that and it just is not worth the effort of making your tank a science experiment. My bichirs don't seem to mind. In fact my community fish breed a LOT my Oscars are happy my monster cats are happy so I really don't try to mess with it. The only precautions I take are a 1-1.5 hour drip acclimation if I buy a fish from out of town as their PH in downtown Sacramento seems a lot lower than mine.

I've never had to do anything with my ph, its been so constant that I must admit I've gotten lazy testing it...

:iagree:
Stable is more important than an actual number.
Most all PH figures are taken in the wild, not where the bulk of fish are bred..fish farms.
I still test, only because I have a quarter of a bottle left to use.:D

i jsut keep driftwood in the tank and use 2/rainwater for WC i wanna keep my discus happy haha might be unnecessary but meh

I go with this idea

I adjust my hardness for certain species but don't actually check pH all that often.

My ph is pretty good. I always check when i do my water changes. I keep my ph at 7.8. My fish are doing great and thrive at that ph.

I have new juvie discus so I checked every week just to be re-assured it stays within 6.6-7.0, like to eliminate ph as a factor in any problems that may arise. in my angel tank, I do it once a month, they are so hardy they can live in any conditions!

just in case there is a sudden change I feel better checking - knowing me, murphy's law in my life, I should be as careful as I can be!!!

^

Some species are more sensative... and Wild Caught fish may be more sensative...

But in most cases as long as you keep it stable your fine...
