my tapwater (from a well) is really funky. it changes from high nitrate to none, and really base to really acid. this can happen in a day. i want to know, how can i affectively keep the water in the tank neutral? i currently use the ph buffer powder, but i hate buying so much of it.

Howdy fatsolomon,

an R/O unit might be your best bet ... not cheap either, though...

You may want to try having a big reservoir tank/drum/barrel, where you combine water from several days. If it's acidic some days and basic on others, it might be neutral on average or at least close enough to minimize the need for adjustment. Use that water for water changes rather than straight from the tap.

hmm...good ideas

How many gallons a week do you need to change? It might be worthwhile to get a couple plastic barrels and set water aside, I did this on a small scale when breeding desert pupfish as the water they needed was very hard and alkaly at one poivt and not so bad at another.

screw it, i just bought a ro/di

6 stage, 110 gallons a day, 145 bucks including shipping. new
