PH Question

I have two senegal bichirs and one ropefish (will add his friend soon). My ph is running about 8.0. We just recently did a 50% water change. We are looking at adding driftwood but are there other ways to lower the ph? Also, is this ph high enough to be deadly? I don't want to lose one of these guys.

They'll be okay.

People often hurt their fish with fluctuating pH values while trying to make the water "perfect". Sometimes, as in this case, "good" is better than fluctuation. Just keep it steady.

Some African species come from water's with high ph.

Most fish will adapt to your ph easier than steadily changing ph. Driftwood will lower it a little. Peat moss in the filter changed once a month will lower it significantly and relatively steadily. Fluval makes peat granules for this purpose, however you can diy your own.

Stability is key, but cause you asked; I'd use peat, or almond leaves, RO water; driftwood, buffering substrate to achieve the end goal
