I am getting closer to finaly setting up my 374g for my sa/ca mix. They have been at my office for a while and the water there is well water. I need to do some current testing but it seems that the hardness is almost nothing and PH is like 7.5 after I run a airstone overnight in it (5.5 or so out the tap). Now my water at home where they will go is way different. I never checked hardness but when I had my africans in the 240 it was like 8-8.2 out the tap. So my question is...would you just try to slowly adjust the fish to the harder home tap or always prep your water for waterchanges to 7.5 or so.

Fish list is
H. Bcort
H. pearsi
V. Bifa
V. Syn
V. Argent
V. Regani
True parrot (wild)
Choc
Rio blanco RTM
Ornatum
Peru oscar
Dist sex
H Carp vontelo

Now all these may or may not all make it but thats the beginning stock.

Thanks

Your home tap water is perfect for the Mexican and Centrals on the ,a pH of 8+.
The South Americans may be better off in the lower pH water at work, but if you're determined to keep the them all together, I believe you'd be better off letting them all get used to the home water, rather than trying to adjust chemistry all the time.
If it were me, I'd keep the South Americans at the office, and the Centrals at home.

When duanes posts I always take notes lol. Most big Centrals are so hardy there more than like will be no issue with ph fluxuation. South americans may be a bit more sensitive which could just mean a longer acclimation process. Either way I cant wait to see this tank up and running.

Yea I'd rather keep it out the tap ph. What I wa thinking is the first full of the tank I can make it 7.5. Then with each water change it will get back up there. That way they won't be as stressed going from a 90tall and a 125 to the Big tank with both groups checking each other out for the first time.

I can't wait either...it should have some pretty sweet sand in it that's for sure lol.
