Right now I have a 55g with some f2 wild strain a. cactuoides that have begun to breed, but aren't really thriving. My ph is currently sitting pretty at 7.2.

I have close to liquid rock coming out of the tap and before I supplemented my water changes with RO it was coming out at about 7.8.

My question is, if I start using all RO but filtering through peat, will the peat add enough nutrients to keep the plants alive? And when it comes to filtering through peat would the peat pellets work well, or would I be better off using plain old moss (I know plain old moss is cheaper, but the pellets look easier).

Thanks for your help with this, I have really been racking my brain trying to solve this water puzzle.

What is the binding agent in the pellets?
And what else is added to them ?

it is just black peat, ketapang leaves, and oak leaves. I can't find what the binding agents are though. But I have yet to read a bad review.

That's why I'm filtering through peat, plus I am going to add just a little bit of SeaChem's Equilibrium to keep the gH at around 2 degrees.

Instead of adding another chemical to fool with, and buy, I'd continue to use peat pellets and just mix the RO with dechlorinated tap water. The ratio would be something you'd need to test out though. You need a little buffering capacity, that your liquid rock will provide, and peat won't.
Around here, many of the killi breeders use peat pellets as a medium for the killi to spawn in without a problem.

is it artificial? Then it won't make it go up. Or if the tank is huge and the rock is small... might not do any noticable work.
