Hello again all,
We have a RT Oscar (Hannibal) & a RT catfish (Bytor) together in a 55 gal tank. We also have a 150 gal tank cycling as we speak to house them when it is ready. I know the Oscar's prefer a Ph range between 7.0 & 8.0. As for my Amazonian friend the cat, I have read that they perfer a more acidic range between 6.2 & 6.8. Now I may know the answer to this already but, I could be just tooting my own horn here. Is there a safe Ph range I should be shooting for or does the Oscar win in this case. To me the cat seems to be the more durable fish. :nutkick: Any help would be most greatful thankx.

Our red tail cat has been in ph7.4-7.6 since we got him at less than 2 inches. In 18 months he has grown to 26" so it goes to show that he is thriving on it.One obvious word of warning.....he is still only a juvenile and will fast outgrow the tank he is in-8ftx3ft6x2ft.At the size he is at now an oscar would not survive with him,his tankmates are two 26" oxydoras nigers and he still pushes them around.

your oscar WILL end up as food one day. as far as ph goes you shouldnt have to worry about either of those fish in the water you already have them in. they are both adaptable and hardy fish. the cat will outgrow the oscar in a matter of months and make a meal out of him soon thereafter

Thankx for the replies, we may end up putting the cat in the 150 and keep the O right where he's at. We realize the cat will be a giant in no time at all and wouldn't want to see Hannibal (the O) as lunch for the cat (Bytor). Should I adjust the Ph in the new 150 for the cat or maintain the Ph at the same level (7.5) as the tank he is now in? Once the cat out grows the 150 he will be going back where we bought him as they would like to display him. They are an exotic pet store (mostly reptiles with a few exotic fish).
