Ph testing question

My tap water ph is 9 and when I let it sit in a bucket for 24 hrs it drops to 7.8. Is the 7.8 my true ph?

Yes. I had a similar issue last year. I read somewhere on the Internet that you should let tap water stand for 24 hours before testing pH. Something about things in the water (chlorine maybe) gassing out of solution causing inaccurate pH readings.

thanks that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure. 7.8 is much better for me than 9!!
