Anyone here keep thier cichla in PH of 7.8 to 8.0? Is this too high? I've been having problems w/ my WC orinos, and was just wondering if it could be the PH. I know that cichla prefer more acidic water, and i know that keeping the ph consistant is more important. But could the ph being so high cause them to act sick? The only fish that are having problems are the WC Orinos....my captive bred monos seem to be just fine.

i live in cali and ph is well over 7.1 usually 7.4 to 7.6 and i have not had a problem like that .Maybe monos are stessing the orinos ? i would look to different area for the problem but you never know!

my pH is high. I think last i checked it was around 8.2. as long as you keep the pH stable it should be fine.

**** I don't know what else it could be....The monos are chasing the Orinos a little bit, but i figured it was just because the orinos aren't feeling good. From every thing i've heard about Orinos is that they are MEAN S.O.B.s, and aren't likely to be picked on by monos the same size. But then again, my most aggressive/ dominant fish is a mono and also happens to be the smallest fish in the tank, so go figure.

seperate them just to see if not at least you have elimated a possable problem put in a divider! You got nothen to loose by trial seperation?
