Phantom and platinum redtail catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Phantoms are man-made by allegedly flashing UV light at the eggs or fry. Cruelty, if you asked me. Produced in mass, hence cheap like $30-$50.

"Platinum" RTC can be natural mutation, as it used to be and they were exuberantly expensive then (many 1000's of $), or again a forced situation where "platinum" parents are bred for this purpose (such offspring are currently several hundred $), or could be some other way that I am not aware of. This is not the topic that's of interest to me, just some things I've heard.

You should learn much more in these recent threads:

As far as I understand, a man-made assumption is not authentic. In a recent video of predatory fins, they have explained this. The pair that bred this color morph no longer had successful haches due to one male or female died. So they tried several attempts to rebreed this, but it was not successful. If this is man-made, there should be many babies on the market to buy. But there isn't.
