I'm curious if any people in Philly know or have been to the Piazza at Schmidt's over by 2nd street. I'm gonna be moving in with a friend who just invested in a business in Philadelphia, and he's looking at moving into a 2 bedroom apartment at the Piazza. I haven't been to Philly in 15 years and the building is only a few years old. From what I've seen online, the apartments look really modern and sleek which I love. And the courtyard has the market every weekend, and there's tons of artists and musicians.....is it as cool a area as it looks to be online?? That would be the question. Here's a vid I found of the courtyard with all the stores and events (is it always this happening on the weekend?)-

Thanks for any info and responses Philly.

i have been there a few times in the summer it is a pretty cool place on certain days(usaully weekends)couple of bars in the area that are nice to hang out in.

Thanks Buddha1200.

..they have a market that sets up 12pm-7pm Sat/Sun year-round.

It looks like a nice area with shopping, bars/restaurants, art galleries and tattoo shops....I think that area of Philly is called "fishtown" too? That would be a fitting neighborhood lol.

yep i actually think there was a girl murdered during a drug deal in one of those buildings about a year ago.... but anyways younger adults would kill to live there, and in in fishtown. It is now one of the fastest growing parts of the city for younger people which is giving it a good rep, and good night life

I remember that unfortunate story,as it goes,it was'nt a drug deal but these men entered the complex to rob this woman who as it turned out was associating with known drug figures. To bad for her but luckily the place has recovered from that situation and is flourishing.....I think the place sits on what used to be an actual beer brewery, hence it's name.

Agreed.

Good stuff guys, I figured from the video and looking at the quality of the apartments (and price), it was a nice spot. It looks like it will be the nicest spot I've yet to live at. When my friend said "would this apartment building be alright with you?", I wasn't picturing foot thick acid-stained concrete floors that could hold monster tanks. I was very happy to see that and the modern interiors.

Cool story too. I don't mean about the girl murdered, but I like history and enjoy hearing about all of it. You said it was a beer factory, hence it's name, was it Schmidt's beer? And I'm assuming it's "Fishtown" because it's right off the river?

Lucky for my friend he's opening up his 2nd tattoo shop down the street from the Piazza. There's supposedly a casino coming soon too.... apparently a great place to open a business now, or live for that matter, I just wanted to hear more about the area before living there. Thanks for the info guys!! I'm stoked after hearing more about it. :D

Not exactly Fishtown but the area is actually called Northern Liberties.Fishtown is another section of the city but yeah,The Piazza sits on land that was home to one of many breweries that we used to have throughout the city...I remember standing in front of the old brewery, waiting for the bus when I was a kid....I hope all goes well for you as far as moving in and all,I know you will enjoy it.
